Bananas and avocados are convenient first foods for babies since they don't need to be cooked prior to eating. Ripe bananas contain the enzyme amylase, which is helpful to digestion. Avocados are a good fat food beneficial to a baby's brain and physical development!

Ingredients
Choose any one fruit option:

  • One very ripe banana with brown spots, peeled
  • One ripe avocado, halved and pitted

Breast milk, formula, or water, as needed

Makes 1/2 - 3/4 cup

Directions
Place the banana into a small bowl, or scoop the avocado flesh from the skin into a small bowl. Mash the banana or avocado with a fork or the back of a spoon until smooth. Add breast milk to thin the purée to the consistency your baby can handle.

Serve immediately. To store, transfer purée to an airtight container, place a damp paper towel over the surface of the avocado purée, cover and refrigerate for up to one day
